It is in a 'posto tranquillo' - a tranquil and peaceful spot, with fine panoramic views, yet the nearest village is just a couple of kilometres away by road.
Villa Farnia makes an excellent base for visiting the 'cities of art' -- Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, etcetera, for making forays into the countryside of Tuscany and for visiting the coast - just twenty minutes by car. There are numerous guidebooks and maps for use of the guests, and the resident (English-speaking) couple is happy to help and make recommendations on where to go and what to see (and eat !).
There is a delightfully located pool for the use of guests as well as a small pool for little children and various play areas.
The apartments have been restored with care, and still feature their original terracotta floors and exposed beamed ceilings. Furnishings are traditionally simple, with rustic and antique furniture.
The villa has a sleeping capacity of 12 people. However it can be rented also by single self-contained apartments for 2 - 4 persons. They consist of a double bedroom, a living room with an equipped kitchenette and 1-2 beds, and a bathroom with bath or shower. On the ground floor of the villa is a salon with a piano, a satellite television and a cd-player for the common use of the guests. The rental prices vary according to season, apartment and number of people and length of stay. Prices include bed linen, gas, electricity and a final cleaning. Central heating will be paid for according to consumption.
| | Villa Farnia belongs to Fauglia, a medieval village on the Colline Pisane, the hills of Pisa, with roads that wind between rolling hills in a charming landscape. The area offers a great choice of places to eat out, from the simple pizzeria to first class restaurants. The local wine production has been appreciated ever since the Etruscan period. Another important product of the region is olive oil. Olive-growing has a very old tradition in the province of Pisa. There are several types of olive trees, and consequently of oil, with differences in harvesting times and methods as well as in olive preservation. Further differences are due to such factors as microclimates and soil composition. Another speciality are truffles. Unlike the black truffle, which is well adapted to clay soils, the white truffle grows in wet vegetation at a distance from trees such as poplars, limes, oaks and willows, in calcareous soils poor in organic substances, a characteristic of Tuscan terrain. Typical products of the region are also alabaster, ceramics, leather goods and furniture. | |
